Luis Rivera, M.P.A.
Founder & CEO, Collective Strategies
Luis Rivera is an experienced leader with a demonstrated history of working in government, community and economic development.
Luis was born in Martin Luther King Jr. Hospital in South Los Angeles, and has a Bachelors degree in Sociology and a Masters degree in Public Administration from California State University of Los Angeles.
Mr. Rivera has had the privilege of serving the Compton, Watts, Willowbrook, South Los Angeles and San Fernando Valley areas for the past 15 years. Recently, Mr. Rivera served as Mayor Eric Garcetti's Community Business Manager in the Office of Economic Development and as the Mayor's South Los Angeles Area Representative for the City, from September 2015 to March 2019. During this time, he created and led the Mayor's Access to Capital, Small Business Summit, Back to Basics Small Business Digital Series, Food Rescue Holidays Event, and the Women's Entrepreneurship Day in LA, serving over 5,000 small, minority, women and veteran owned business enterprises.
Mr. Rivera has also held positions as a former Program Officer at First 5 LA, and a Program Coordinator at St. John’s Well Child and Family Center. Additionally, he has received various community awards and recognition for his work, including the 2014 People for Community Improvement (P.C.I.) Community Service Award, the 2017 L.U.R.N. City Summer Star Awards and a 2018 City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works Council Recognition.
Luis is inspired by many great leaders who have dedicated their lives to create and be the change they want to see in the world. During his free time Luis enjoys giving back to the community, spending time with his 18 year old daughter, family and friends, and physical fitness.
